About the position

We are a fast-growing company that is known around the world. Well perhaps not that well known, but you may have heard of our brands – Urbanears, Marshall and soon adidas. In fact, they may even deliver high fidelity tunes to your ears from time to time. For years Zound has taken a back seat to these household names, but now it’s stepping into the spotlight. And this is where you come in.

Right now we're on the lookout for a talented Graphic Designer to strengthen our corporate communications team. Diving in at the deep end, you will help to develop our corporate identity and ensure that this rings true with our overall global vision for the company. You can deliver on the bigger picture while not losing sight of the smaller details. Above all you can help us develop a corporate brand that appeals across the board - to distributors and retailers, current and future employees, plus our investors and shareholders.

The position
Reporting to the Communications manager, you will work with various functions within the organisation. Your job will be to spearhead the direction for the corporate brand, leading specialist consultants and also producing a lot of artwork yourself.
The position is both strategic and operational. This means you’re not afraid to switch between long-term tactical thinking to more mundane tasks like updating Power Point/Keynote presentations. We’re a small corporate communications team so tasks truly range from everything to everything else.

Skills Required
• A few years of experience as a Graphic Designer or Art Director/Junior Art Director at an agency, as a freelancer, or as part of an in-house team .
• Proven creative capacity in all aspects of design, from concepts to print-ready files, presentations and web projects.

I'm trying to find the cherry on top

Keeping things real at Zound is Yandeh, our Mood Manager. Find out more about what she does to keep our values and culture alive.

I'm trying to find the cherry on top

Mood manager is an unusual job title, what’s it about?
My role is to set the mood at Zound. I’m here to make sure every single employee feels appreciated and valued. It’s about recognizing the individual and ensuring that they feel part of the bigger Zound picture. Your skills are important, but so is your personality.

How did you end up working at Zound?
I’d been working in the restaurant business for ten years in different roles and different countries. I was in serious need of a change. I heard that Zound was looking for somebody for reception and I got the job. I was kind of scared as I thought office work was stiff and boring. However, I was surprised. It’s as fun and social as what I did before but with a totally different development potential.

And how did you get the job as mood manager?
Part of my role was working with our chief evangelist, helping to define our culture and making sure it comes out in our day to day work. When he left, I was picked to head up this work, but we tweaked the title to fit me and my personality. Mood manager is actually a nickname my friends gave me. It kind of fits.

So what do you actually do?
A big part of my role is to make sure we all live our culture and values each and every day. I organize lunch and learning talks every week to challenge our thoughts and ideas. We’ve discovered how flow can be scientifically explained, how the creative process works and about conflict resolution in Columbia from a woman’s perspective.

Being curious and learning new skills can help you think about your work or life in a totally different way. So we have new skill nights that are like mini-courses covering everything from knitting to yoga to ZBrush.

I also work with HR on making our new employee induction the best it can be, letting them know that they are more than just a cog in a machine. And there’s always something happening from our Christmas bash to celebrating Norway’s independence day!

What’s your favorite part of the role?
I love making Zound feel like a home to everyone. Lots of people go to work and don’t enjoy their job and that’s a real shame. Here at Zound we want people to like coming to work. So I always try to create the wow – something that’s unexpected and brings everybody together. I’m trying to find the cherry on top.

Our values

Our values are the glue that bind us. They're what makes Zound what it is - a mix of courage for curiosity, creating the wow, believing that magic is together and being on the ball.

"We're all problem solvers"

Meet Ebba, Industrial Designer, Stockholm

“We’re all problem solvers”
I was employee number 50-something. Straight after my degree I joined the company as a design trainee. Then I became a junior designer and now I’m an Industrial designer. That means I work with the outsides of our products, designing them for mass production. It’s not just about how they look, we have to think about the materials we use, the textures and how it feels for a customer to use them.

Until recently I was part of the team working on the Adidas Originals project. We were starting from scratch so we had to understand the form language of Adidas before we even started designing the products. Now I’m back working with Marshall again. Each brand has a different personality, look and ethos – it’s great to be able to work with all of them.

Working in a company that’s growing so fast means that we’re all problem solvers. If you see something that needs fixing, you fix it. People trust that you will do a good job. Each day is different depending on the stage of each project. One day I can be part of super-serious meetings about budgets or picking materials and the next I’m playing with glitter for a collaboration with an artist. I really have to pinch myself sometimes – it still feels like I’m in school.

My colleagues are what make the job. Zound has a great team and even when we lose somebody really good, we always seem to find an equally great person to replace them.

Meet Andrea, Marketing Manager, New York

“An incubator for creative minds and divergent thinkers”

When you work at a company that’s growing like Zound you need to be able to think outside the box and be ready to hit the ground running.

For me there’s no such thing as an average day. I alternate between touching base with the team in Sweden and working with our partners here in the US to keep our marketing activations rolling.

I’ve worked in other European countries, but there’s something special about the Swedish people, culture and way of working. It’s a very collaborative and democratic working style, which is really motivating.

The best thing about working at Zound is the people and creative energy in the office. Everyone encourages each other, and hard work is recognized which makes for a very positive environment. We’re a very diverse group in terms of our backgrounds, which brings unique perspectives to projects. It helps us come up great ideas to get one up on the competition!

My tip for people applying for a job at Zound is to let your personality shine through during your interview. Zound is an incubator for creative minds and divergent thinkers – regardless of the role.

"It’s about taking the opportunity"

Meet Tim, Global Logistics Manager, Stockholm

“It’s about taking the opportunity”

If you see something that needs doing, then you just get on and do it. That’s the great thing about Zound – you’re given the freedom to get on with your job and make a difference.

Logistics is a bit like working in a control tower. You’ve got to make sure that the right items are in the right place at the right time. At the right price, of course. Then throw in a fair amount of managing expectations of customers, colleagues in sales and management, and you’ve described my job in a nutshell.

I spend a lot of time talking with contacts around the world. One moment I’m on the phone to our factories in China making sure products are ready to ship, then I’m talking to our warehouses or our transport partners across Europe and the US.

We mainly ship things by sea, so you have to think ahead. Each month I work on forecasting our demand to make sure shelves are always stacked with our products. It gets really crazy in the last part of the year in the run up to Christmas and other holidays.

My life motto is be open to try. I was a member of a band playing 80s rock and now I spend my spare time competing in triathlons. This is a great bit of advice for people starting at Zound too.

Zound brought me to Stockholm and it’s also introduced me to some of my best friends. We’re like one big family.

Meet Clement, Regional Sales Manager, Paris

"Everything is possible"

Meet Clement, Regional Sales Manager, Paris

“Everything is possible”

My link to Zound goes back to almost the beginning of the company’s story. From 2009 to 2014 I worked for one of the first distributors of Zound products. Then I joined the family for real as a regional sales manager. Back then we were a team of six and over the past four years we’ve grown to be 26.

A sales manager’s job is very varied. Of course, I spend a lot of my time with retailers and distributors – in meetings, giving training sessions, visiting trade shows. Then there’s the back-office stuff like price quotations, business reviews, sales operations and so on.

Sales is always challenging, but also fun. When you’re part of a fast-growing company it feels like everything is possible. And it is. But it’s up to you to make the most of it. You’ve got to be proactive, ready to learn and have an entrepreneurial mindset.

I’ve learnt a lot in my four years with Zound. Two of my biggest challenges have been creating the French sales team and setting up the Paris office. It’s hard to believe that it’s been over a year since we moved in.

I can’t wait to see what happens over the next four years. There’s so much potential and room for growth.

Meet Jesper, Sales Operations Manager, Stockholm

"Be open and don’t be afraid to ask"

Meet Jesper, Sales Operations Manager, Stockholm

“Be open and don’t be afraid to ask”

My friend tipped me off about Zound. He was working here and said I should too. After that I got talking to one of the founders at a tech event and sent in my resume. I didn’t hear anything so I sent a reminder and half an hour later I was on the phone to HR talking about opportunities. Unfortunately there wasn’t anything to suit me then, but a few weeks later I got a call back and I started as sales and logistics coordinator.
In the beginning I was combining studying and working. I got the chance to go to our New York office on an internship and learnt all about the US market. It was invaluable experience. After the six months I came back to Stockholm as Sales Operations manager.
In my role you need a balance of good analytical and communications skills, an eye for detail and be able to build relationships quickly. At Zound you are constantly challenged. You get given assignments that you may not have done before, but you are trusted with the responsibility. It’s challenging but really helps you grow.
My best tip for people starting at Zound is to be open and don’t be afraid to ask. We’re a scale-up company so we’re all learning. And the people! It’s fantastic working with so many inspiring and ambitious people.

Meet Trinity, Regional Sales Manager, China

"Never had a role like this before"

Meet Trinity, Regional Sales Manager, China

“Never had a role like this before”

Through friends I met with one of the founders of Zound and started working as a project manager in the production office. I think I was the fourth employee. As the company grew my role changed. I started taking the lead of sourcing and logistics in China and when the manager of the Chinese office left in 2014 I became operations director for China.

As Zound got bigger some responsibilities were transferred to Stockholm. At the same time ecommerce sales in China were going through the roof so I investigated the potential of setting up a local ecom team. In 2017 I became regional sales manager in China.

I’ve never had a role like this before, so it is both challenging and exciting. My goal is to finish setting up the sale team and make sure it functions well. I spend a lot of time on teamwork. It’s important that everybody feels they are making an impact to help the company to continue growing.

Working at Zound is very different than the average Chinese company and it can be a bit of a culture shock. So it’s super important to make sure we recruit the right people. We want to create a healthy environment that gives our employees the right work life balance.

My specialty in our team is drivers. These are the parts of speakers and headphones that make the sound. It’s a pretty niche area so when I was looking for a new job and couldn’t find anything in the UK, I started looking further afield and found this job. I started working almost straight off the plane. I only dropped by the office to pick up some keys but started chatting to the team and got stuck in right away. Haven’t really stopped since.

Each morning I’m in touch with our suppliers in China through project meetings or just answering emails and then during the afternoon I’m usually in the lab – measuring speakers, analyzing components, developing the distinctive sound of our products. In acoustics it’s a balancing act to make sure that all the parts of a speaker or headphones work well together. Changing one thing can often have an unwanted knock-on effect. It’s something you get the hang of with experience. Plus a lot of trial and error.

Working at Zound you’ve got to be prepared to get involved and try out new things. There’s so much going on, both at work and after work. I mean, I’d never even heard of innebandy before I moved to Sweden and now I play every week!

Meet Sandra, Global Digital Marketing Manager, Stockholm

The only limit is the one you set yourself

Even in the short time I’ve been at Zound our team has grown like crazy. Both in the number of people and in terms of responsibilities and competences. People explore, learn about a brand, a product or a trend in different ways, sometimes more complex to get a grip on, now and go online instead of visiting real life stores or simultaneously, so we’ve moved our focus to meet this (not that) new reality.

My days vary so much. Of course, I have the normal admin and tasks to deal with, but I could be developing campaigns, working on product launches or budget planning. At the heart of my role is engaging customers online from the moment they think about buying a speaker or some headphones right through until they become a repeat customer and keep them engaged and loyal.

Being a good communicator is essential. We’re still relatively small so I work with people in lots of different roles as close or as far as it can get from my domain of expertise. I might be working with the brands, retail teams, sales, external partners of all kinds. So it’s important that I can share my thoughts and ideas clearly and get the same experience from everyone I work with.

I’m learning all the time. Things happen so fast and you really have the potential to make an impact. Everybody here works beyond their job description and the only limit is the one you set on yourself.
